With all its joy and promise, birth is an event like no other. It's our job to create a personal, comfortable, and memorable experience for mother — and family. That can mean preparing for a natural delivery, calming the discomfort of labor in a jetted bathtub, or soothing sore muscles with a post-partum massage.
Our Family Birth Center is small but mighty, and with a sterling reputation unmatched in the Willamette Valley. In fact, we deliver twice the number of babies as any hospital twice our size in Oregon — surely a testament to the doctors, midwives, nurses and staff that make every day at Silverton Hospital someone's birthday.

What to Expect
Our Family Birth Center has beautiful, private birth suites with all of the comforts of home — day beds, cozy chairs, refrigerators, and more. We'll help you plan a birth experience centered on mom, and any family and support people she'd like to participate. Explore the information below, or come visit us in person. We host tours every Sunday at 3pm. There is no need to call ahead.
Pregnancy and delivery should be an exciting and joyful experience. We're here to help you feel prepared and confident for the big day... and the first few months with baby!

Services & Technology
We offer several natural delivery approaches that enable women to help direct their own care. Pain medications and epidural anesthesia are also available. The Family Birth Center includes a surgical suite for cesarean delivery.
In addition, Silverton Hospital is a part of Oregon Health & Science University's Telemedicine Network for pediatric specialty care. Telepeds is an innovative new technology that enables Silverton Hospital care providers to collaborate in real-time with pediatric intensivist or neonatologist from OHSU.

Classes & Support Groups
Childbirth and Breastfeeding classes and support groups at Silverton Hospital are a great source of information for new parents — as well as a good brush-up for those who already have children.
Childbirth Preparation (wonderful beginnings)
Childbirth Preparation classes are packed with important information to make pregnancy, labor and the first weeks with baby go smoothly. Classes include relaxation techniques and other coping tools that you’ll utilize in labor. Comfort options including pain medication and epidural anesthesia are also discussed. A tour of the Family Birth Center is included so you will be familiar with your surroundings when your time comes.
Breastfeeding & Baby Basics
Breastfeeding is the most healthy choice for you and your baby. Our B.A.B.I.E.S. Lactation Consultants provide information on the physiology of milk production, positioning techniques, Dad / Partner's involvement, and keys to successful breastfeeding. Nursery safety, crying infants and tips on transitioning into parenthood are also discussed.
Schedule, Costs & Registration
Classes fill quickly so be sure to register at least 12-16 weeks before your due date. Classes are held at Silverton Hospital on the second floor of the Family Birth Center.

6-week or weekend series, includes both Childbirth Preparation & Breastfeeding & Baby Basics
Baby Basics & Breastfeeding
2-hour session, this is part of the 6-week series. Weekend series participants can also attend this class.

Breastfeeding Support Group
Any breastfeeding mom is welcome to come discuss the joys and challenges of breastfeeding and motherhood, in this relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Come as you are.

The B.A.B.I.E.S. store at Silverton Hospital Family Birth Center offers a wide variety of supplies and equipment that can be purchased for your infant feeding needs. The store is open Monday – Friday from 9am – 5pm.
